In a surprising turn, NBA writer Josh Cornelissen of Blue Man Hoop has floated a bold trade idea that would shake the league to its core: the Pelicans trading for Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry. The proposed trade package includes:
- New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Stephen Curry, Draymond Green
- Golden State Warriors Receive: Brandon Ingram, C.J. McCollum, Jordan Hawkins, Jose Alvarado, Four First-Round Picks, One Pick Swap
This hypothetical deal is loaded with assets on both sides, making it one of the most intriguing trade ideas in recent memory.
Why the Trade Makes (Some) Sense
Add Curry and Green to that mix, and the Pelicans will become an NBA championship favourite overnight. Curry, one of the all-time greatest shooters, is now coming in with championship experience to a young-blooded team. To put him on a team, his teammates should be Williamson, Murray, and Green, a lineup that would surely bring championships within the year.
In return, the Warriors would acquire youth and depth in form of Ingram and McCollum, two potent scorer who can help the team to rebuild for the future. Jordan Hawkins and Jose Alvarado bring youth, and the multiple first-round picks are good trade and/or draft capital.
The Reality Check
As much as the idea is tempting, Curry’s trade appears rather unrealistic. Curry is the Warrior’s icon and his influence in the team has been enormous in the team both internally and externally. It goes without saying that Golden State would like to have Curry retire in the Warriors jersey as he is very popular there.
Although, the prospect of Curry wearing a Pelicans jersey, side by side with Zion Williamson, is exciting. Although, we can be very sure that it is purely a fiction, but such a notion generates discussions about what could be in an NBA considering the fact that whatever can happen.
