Warriors Open to Trades, But Curry is Untouchable

Trade discussions may include most Golden State Warriors players, except for Stephen Curry. During the Willard & Dibs show, head coach Steve Kerr verified that Curry is not available for trade talks.

Curry Stays, Others Could Go

Only a small number of players in the league are mentioned in trade talks. There is no discussion about trading Steph Curry. “Everyone else is,” Kerr stated. This indicates that players such as Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Jonathan Kuminga may be traded if the right opportunity presents itself. The goal of the Warriors is to make the most of Curry’s peak years as a superstar.

Supporting Cast’s Challenges

Curry, who is 36 years old, had an impressive season in 2023–24, with averages of 26.4 points and 5.1 assists, and he also led the NBA by making 357 three-point shots. Although he did well, his supporting actors didn’t meet expectations.

Klay Thompson, who is beloved in the Bay Area, is past his peak performance. He also entered the game as a substitute last season and signed with the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent this offseason.

Draymond Green was limited to just 55 appearances in the last season as a result of multiple suspensions. While he remains a crucial player in defense and in creating plays, his inconsistency has posed a challenge for the team.

At 29 years old, Andrew Wiggins had a less than stellar season with an average of only 13.2 points per game, a significant drop from his All-Star performance that contributed to the Warriors’ victory in the 2021–22 season.

It is likely that Jonathan Kuminga, who is showing improvement, is the team’s top trade asset alongside future draft picks. He is not prepared to be the backup choice for a title-winning team.

Potential Trade Targets

The Warriors are rumored to be considering a trade for Lauri Markkanen. Who would provide an offensive boost compared to their current players. Adding Markkanen to the team would be beneficial. But acquiring him would be expensive due to his value in partnering with Curry.

While the Warriors look into these improvements, trade discussions will likely involve players such as Kuminga, Wiggins, and Green, This is the truth in the NBA as the team looks to construct a team centered on their star player, Stephen Curry.
