Many had doubts about the San Antonio Spurs’ decision to select rising star Victor Wembanyama as the top pick in the draft last year. However, only a year later, the French teenager has shut down critics by delivering an amazing debut season. Fans no longer doubt his skills, but worries persist about his thin 209-pound body. Wembanyama recently responded to these worries in a manner that could reassure everyone.

Adding Muscle and Versatility

Even with his impressive 7’4” height and varied abilities, Victor encountered difficulties when competing against stronger players such as Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. Their noticeable weight superiority revealed a flaw in his playing style. Yet, in a recent interview, Wemby admitted that he has put on some pounds since entering the league. Is that ten kilograms? Decline. He estimated around four to five kilograms, showing his dedication to getting stronger physically. Once Wemby increases his muscle mass, he has the potential to become an unstoppable force without any weaknesses in his performance.

Yoga for Longevity

Wembanyama has started yoga sessions to enhance his body coordination and flexibility. Despite what most people think, he is not focused on being flexible, but rather on improving his athletic ability. “It enables the body to move in an entirely different dimension,” Wemby described. This emphasis on movement could prevent him from experiencing the injury-riddled careers seen by other tall players such as Greg Oden and Yao Ming.

Learning from the Best

Wembanyama can take motivation from Giannis Antetokounmpo’s path. Just as star Victor Wembanyama did, Giannis started off in the league as a thin player, but through dedication, he evolved into one of the top forces in the NBA. If Wembanyama goes down the same road, he could become one of the most legendary players ever.
