With the NBA Finals imminent, Draymond Green, the outspoken Golden State Warrior and four-time NBA champion, has been particularly vocal on his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.” As the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks gear up for Game 1, Green’s comments have stirred the pot, especially regarding his feelings towards Boston fans.

In the latest episode of his podcast “The Draymond Green Show,”  Green expressed his admiration for several Boston Celtics players, including Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Jaylen Brown, but he did not hold back his disdain for their fans. “I can really give a s*** to see anything happen good to Boston other than Jason Tatum. I love Jrue; I have love for JB, but I just hate the Boston Celtics. Hate Boston. Just rude people, rude fans,” Green said during the show.

Green’s animosity towards Boston fans is not new. It dates back to the Warriors’ 2022 NBA title-winning run, during which they defeated the Celtics. Green has been vocal about his experiences with Boston fans, whom he claims were extremely rude to him during the series. This bitterness was evident last year when Green took pleasure in the Celtics’ Game 7 loss to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. “But I must say, it did not hurt me to watch the Boston Celtics fans suffer,” Green said in a previous podcast episode. “Those people were really rude to me last year, and I like to see them suffer. Quite frankly, for the second year in a row in a big close-out game, the Boston fans suffer.”

During the 2022 NBA Finals, Boston fans were notorious for chanting curses at Green, and some even wore shirts with insults directed at him. The hostility extended beyond the court, as Green’s wife accused Celtics fans of “disgusting behavior” during the series. The Warriors ultimately triumphed, winning the Finals in six games.

In true Draymond fashion, he did not let the opportunity pass to mock the Celtics during Golden State’s championship celebration. He sported a Celtics-colored shirt featuring their 17 championship banners, but with an added 18th banner bearing the words “nope and maybe in 23.” This jab underscored his lingering resentment towards Boston and its fan base.

This season, the Warriors found themselves struggling, finishing as the 10th seed and losing to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in tournament. Despite the disappointing season, Green remains committed to the Warriors and cherishes his history with the team.

Draymond Green’s relationship with LeBron James, one of the Celtics’ biggest rivals in the 2010s, is another intriguing aspect of his career. The two have faced off numerous times, with Green’s Warriors winning three of their four titles against James’ Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite their on-court battles, Green has expressed a desire to team up with James one day. “As much as I’ll love the opportunity to play with Bron one day,” Green stated, “it puts the wraps on the possibilities of that because as long as this franchise (the Golden State Warriors) will have me, that’s where I’ll be.”

Green’s admiration for LeBron goes beyond basketball. He considers James a brother, and their families are close. Green’s children even refer to LeBron as “Uncle,” highlighting the deep personal bond they share.

Draymond Green’s comments about Boston fans reveal the deep-seated rivalries and personal animosities that make the NBA so compelling. His honesty and unfiltered opinions are a double-edged sword, endearing him to some while alienating others. This kind of raw emotion and personal stake is what fuels the passion of the sport and its fans.

As the NBA transitions to the Finals, Green’s remarks add an extra layer of drama and intrigue. His ongoing feud with Boston fans serves as a reminder of the intense emotions and personal vendettas that define professional sports. Whether you love him or hate him, Draymond Green’s candidness is a testament to the passion that drives the NBA.
