The Dallas Mavericks’ injury report has expanded ahead of their season opener, with new updates on Jaden Hardy and Josh Green.
As the Dallas Mavericks prepare to wrap up their preseason against the Detroit Pistons, they find themselves without several key players due to injuries. Luka Doncic was already ruled out for the Pistons matchup as he continues to recover from a mild left calf strain. His availability for the season opener against the San Antonio Spurs on October 25 is still under evaluation. In contrast, Kyrie Irving, who recently battled a groin injury, has participated fully in practice twice since the team’s return from Madrid.
The Mavericks have encountered new injuries since their return from abroad, with Jaden Hardy and Josh Green added to the list. Hardy suffered an ankle sprain during Tuesday’s practice and is currently undergoing treatment, with his status yet to be determined. Meanwhile, Green had a fall that caused a back injury on Monday, leading to his absence from Tuesday’s practice.
Kidd provided an update, saying, “Jaden Hardy sprained his ankle today, and he’s receiving treatment. We’ll assess how he’s feeling. Josh Green hurt his back yesterday, and he sat out today. We’ll evaluate his condition, and hopefully, he’ll be able to practice on Thursday.”
With lingering uncertainties about player availability, including Green and Hardy, the Mavericks are facing decisions about their lineup for the upcoming regular season, especially regarding who will start on the wing. The coaching staff intends to experiment with different combinations due to these injuries, exploring options before settling on an opening night lineup.
Kidd shared, “We’ll continue to explore various combinations due to these health concerns, and we’ll decide on our starting lineup for opening night. On Friday, we’ll likely try out different starters and go from there.”
Despite the potential absence of Green and Hardy for Friday’s game, the Mavericks view the matchup against the Pistons as an opportunity for other players to assume greater responsibilities.
“The injuries provide someone else with an opportunity if Josh can’t play on Friday,” Kidd noted. “For us as coaches, it allows us to assess how someone handles that role.”
With time running short before the regular season opener against the Spurs, the Mavericks face the challenge of getting key players back to full health and forming a cohesive lineup.
