The Warriors’ legendary star, Stephen Curry, pledged his long-term future to the franchise about 24 hours later when he signed a one-year contract extension worth $62.5 million. The extension showcases Curry’s continued value to the team and the loyalty that he has shown in Golden State. This extension announcement made it clear once again that Curry wants this to be the place where he eventually retires, leaving behind a long and unblemished history.

Stephen Curry told The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson that his contract extension was a sign of his ongoing self-belief. This was according to Winningham. The front office didn’t secure a second star this summer, despite attempts to trade for Paul George and Lauri Markkanen. Curry has consistently made it clear that he wants to be a Warrior for life, as long as the front office remains committed and works with him.

Curry signing the extension doesn’t guarantee he will never play for another team. It means Golden State aims to be a key player in pursuing championship No. 5 over the next three seasons. Stephen Curry could have played out the 2024-25 season and assessed Thompson’s departure for maximum leverage with the front office. Instead, he secured $62.6 million in guaranteed money. It’s a decent wage for someone who will be 39 before the final year of his deal.

Stephen Curry described his experience with Team USA at the 2024 Olympics as a “12-out-of-10” on Tuesday. In the semifinals against Serbia, Curry led Team USA to a comeback win by scoring 36 points. He made nine of his 14 shots from three-point range, showcasing his exceptional shooting skills. During the Americans’ victory over France in the gold medal game, Curry scored 24 points and went 8 for 12 from deep. He had a standout moment, making four straight three-pointers late in the fourth quarter, marking another career highlight.

Hopefully, he can re-create that feeling with the Warriors. The play-in was where Golden State’s 2023-24 season began and ended quickly, due to a loss to the Sacramento Kings.
