Stephen Curry will remain with the Golden State Warriors for one more year. According to his agent Jeff Austin, Curry will sign a contract extension worth $62.6 million for one year on Thursday. This extension will commit Curry to the team until the 2026-27 season, at which point he will be 39 years old.
Curry’s Career Earnings Continue to Soar
Curry’s impressive earnings are further boosted by his new contract. In 2022, he agreed to a four-year deal worth $215 million, securing $178 million guaranteed for the upcoming three seasons with the contract extension. By the 2026-27 season, he is expected to be the first NBA player to make more than $60 million in one year. At the conclusion of his contract extension, Curry will have earned a combined $532.7 million in his career, putting him in a prestigious category with LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Warriors’ Future Remains Unclear
Although Stephen Curry is still a force to be reckoned with, the future of Golden State Warriors is not as clear. The team lost Klay Thompson and Chris Paul in the offseason but gained De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson, and Buddy Hield. The Warriors were unsuccessful in acquiring a star player. As deals for Paul George and Lauri Markkanen did not come to fruition. Moreover, Steve Kerr’s current contract is set to expire after the 2025-26 season, which adds more doubt.
Olympic Glory and On-Court Dominance
Curry’s most recent contract extension comes after his outstanding showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Where he contributed to Team USA’s gold medal win. His excellence was highlighted by his 60 points in two games and 17 successful three-pointers. Curry’s 10th All-NBA selection was earned by his average of 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists last season. As Curry gears up for the next phase of his career, he continues to be a formidable presence.
