USA basketball star Stephen Curry recently expressed his support for Kamala Harris bid for the White House and voiced his belief that a successful US Olympic campaign could help unite a divided nation in the lead-up to the presidential election. The four-time NBA champion, making his Olympic debut, praised Harris, a former California senator and longtime supporter of Curry’s Golden State Warriors.

“It’s a very interesting time for our country,” Curry told reporters. “President Biden’s endorsement and Vice-President Harris’s energy are crucial for this campaign. Hopefully, if she’s on the ticket, she will win the election.”

Kamala Harris, who visited Curry and the team at their Las Vegas training camp, shares a strong rapport with the Warriors star, rooted in their San Francisco connections and political alignment.

“She represents the Bay Area,” Curry said. “She’s been a big supporter of us, and I want to give that energy back to her. We’re representing our country, and this is a monumental time for our direction. Hopefully, sports can help unify our country.”

Curry, who helped the US win FIBA world championships in 2010 and 2014, will make his long-awaited Olympic debut against Serbia. Despite some bumpy performances in warm-up games, Curry remains confident in the team’s ability to manage the pressure and deliver strong performances.

“Once the game starts, it’s just basketball,” Curry said. “You get lost in the game’s atmosphere and the challenge to win. It’s a sprint, and you need to adapt quickly. Playing for Team USA requires putting egos aside and focusing on doing your best. Usually, good things happen when we do that.”

Kevin Durant, another key player, is dealing with a calf injury but hopes to be ready for the opener. The US men’s team, featuring stars like LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Jayson Tatum, aims for a fourth straight Olympic gold medal. The team’s journey includes group-stage matches in Lille against Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico before continuing in Paris for the Games.

Curry, reflecting on the journey and team dynamics, emphasized the importance of every practice and game in this condensed, high-stakes tournament. “It’s not 82 games, and there’s no pacing yourself. Every game and practice mean something. We need to bring energy and play selflessly as Team USA.”

Curry’s confidence and optimism extend beyond the basketball court, as he hopes the Olympic success can contribute to unifying the country during a critical election period.
