The Philadelphia 76ers are set to take on the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, in one of the marquee matchups of the NBA’s 2024 Christmas Day slate. According to a report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Sixers will head to Boston for what promises to be a highly anticipated clash, joining a lineup that also features the Spurs at Knicks, Timberwolves at Mavericks, Lakers at Warriors, and Nuggets at Suns.

The Celtics dominated the Eastern Conference last season, racking up 64 regular-season wins before storming through the playoffs to claim the title. Meanwhile, the Sixers had a disappointing early exit in the first round, losing to the New York Knicks. However, the team enters the new season with renewed hope, bolstered by the offseason acquisitions of star forward Paul George and key role players like Caleb Martin and Andre Drummond.

This Christmas Day game will mark the Sixers’ third consecutive appearance on the holiday. During the Joel Embiid era, the Sixers have a 3-2 record on Christmas, with victories over the Knicks in 2017 and 2022, and the Bucks in 2019. They fell to the Celtics in 2018 and to the Heat in 2023.

The full NBA schedule is typically released in mid-August, but fans are already buzzing about the Christmas Day lineup. The Sixers are also slated to compete in East Group A of the NBA Cup, alongside the Knicks, Magic, Nets, and Hornets, adding further excitement to their upcoming season.

As the 76ers aim to bounce back from last season’s disappointment, their Christmas Day showdown with the Boston Celtics will be a key early test of their championship aspirations.
