Lithuania’s starting point guard, Rokas Jokubaitis, had an outstanding showing in the NBA Summer League, displaying his top performance so far. In a matchup against the Sacramento Kings, the New York Knicks rookie came off the bench and put up 16 points in a quick 21-minute span. Jokubaitis had a flawless shooting performance, hitting all 7 of his attempts, which included 2 three-pointers. He added 5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block to his stats.

Ready for the NBA

“I’ve been getting a lot of focus from the NBA for a long time,” Jokubaitis informed Mundo Deportivo’s Toni Canyameras. Three years ago, I was recruited, but I always identified more as a European basketball player. “After gaining maturity and experience over the years in Europe, I believe I am prepared.” The 23-year-old has participated in three games in Las Vegas and has two games remaining before resting.

Future Plans with Zalgiris Kaunas

Following the Summer League, Jokubaitis might come back to Zalgiris Kaunas. As reported by BasketNews, he is on the verge of sealing an agreement with his previous team. “What are your plans for the upcoming season?” Jokubaitis stated that he currently has an agreement with Barca regarding his future. “My summer with the national team was challenging. “There are only a couple of games remaining, and then we’ll find out.”

Waiting for Barcelona’s Decision

Jokubaitis is still bound by a contract with FC Barcelona until the year 2025. Nevertheless, the Lithuanian point guard anticipates being substituted by Spanish newcomer Juan Nunez in the guard lineup. Jokubaitis pointed out that the entire nation and Europe are discussing it. “I still have an agreement with Barcelona.” We are discussing with Zalgiris, but we are not close to signing yet.

Open to NBA Opportunities

Selected by the Knicks as the 34th overall pick in 2021, Jokubaitis remains undecided about his future. “Will you be joining the Knicks?” It’s difficult to determine at the moment. There are a few remaining Summer League games, so we will wait and see. He confessed that he is unaware of their thoughts. Even though he has mainly played in Europe throughout his career, Jokubaitis is still keen to pursue opportunities in the NBA. He decided to keep his possibilities open and give it a try here as well.

Rising Star

Rokas Jokubaitis, who won the 2022 EuroLeague Rising Star Trophy, started his pro career at Zalgiris and later transferred to Barcelona, where he has been playing for three seasons. He posted averages of 5.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists during the 2023-24 EuroLeague season. His strong showing in the NBA Summer League indicates that he is prepared and has the potential for a promising NBA future.
