Basketball club Real Madrid has welcomed back their former prodigy, Usman Garuba, after his three-year journey in the NBA. The 22-year-old has signed a three-year contract with “Los Blancos,” marking his return to the team where he first made a name for himself, reports BasketNews.
A Promising NBA Career
Garuba spent two seasons with the Houston Rockets from 2021 to 2023, followed by a stint with the Golden State Warriors in the 2023-2024 season. Despite showing potential, his time in the NBA was marked by limited opportunities to fully showcase his skills. Now, Garuba is set to bring his NBA experience back to Europe, rejoining the team where his basketball journey began.
A Star in the Making at Real Madrid
Garuba’s connection with Real Madrid runs deep. He joined the club’s youth system in 2013 and quickly established himself as a standout player. He was a Spanish champion at various youth levels, capturing two mini-cups and the European Cup for juniors in 2019. Garuba made his senior team debut in 2019, and over three seasons, he helped Real Madrid secure four major titles, including an ACB Championship, a Spanish Cup, and two Spanish Supercups.
Olympic Glory for Team USA
While Real Madrid is celebrating the return of Garuba, the international basketball scene has also been buzzing. The United States men’s basketball team claimed victory in the Olympic final, defeating their opponents 98-87 and securing their fifth consecutive gold medal. In the women’s tournament, Team USA narrowly edged out France with a 67-66 win, securing their eighth consecutive gold.
Notably, this victory added another historic achievement to Diana Taurasi’s illustrious career. With her sixth Olympic gold medal, Taurasi became the most decorated basketball player in Olympic history.
With the return of Usman Garuba, Real Madrid strengthens their roster, aiming for continued success in both domestic and international competitions.
