He discussed with NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson about Kerr’s choice to sit Tatum. “I understand that as a player, it’s not fun,” Looney said, recognizing Tatum’s sacrifice. Still, Looney emphasized Kerr’s emphasis on winning: “Steve is completely dedicated to winning… and when he makes a decision like that and it is successful, you have to acknowledge it.” Looney also emphasized Kerr’s extensive background as a player, GM, and coach, stating, “When he notices something in the game, he’s typically correct.”

Steve Kerr’s Explanation

Steve Kerr addressed the controversy by providing an explanation for his choice to sideline Tatum in two Olympic matches. Kerr stated that Jayson’s actions, or lack thereof, are not the issue. He stressed that the choice was based on finding the optimal lineup and assigning positions upon Kevin Durant’s comeback from his injury. Kerr described it as a “math problem” instead of a reflection of Tatum’s skills.

Tatum’s Thoughts on the Future

Although he had a challenging experience, Tatum remains calm and optimistic about his future with Team USA. Tatum stated that he will need time to consider playing in the 2028 Olympic in Los Angeles. As he does not want to make a decision based on emotions.

Tatum’s contemplation demonstrates his growth and dedication to making prudent choices, despite the difficulties he encountered in Paris.
