The Oklahoma City Thunder achieved a convincing 106-88 victory in the game against the depleted New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night, signifying their second consecutive win in the absence of important forward Chet Holmgren. The Thunder’s reliance on guards and even scoring led them to win, demonstrating the team’s versatility and depth.

Williams and Gilgeous-Alexander Shine

Jalen Williams topped Oklahoma City Thunder with 31 points, going 10-for-18 from the floor, hitting four three-pointers, and contributed seven assists. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 29 points with a 12-of-25 shooting performance, extending his remarkable scoring streak. The two players energized the offense, igniting a 16-0 Thunder surge in the third quarter to break a 59-59 deadlock and seize control of the match.

Lou Dort and Aaron Wiggins contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, aiding the Thunder in overcoming an initial shortfall. Although down 16-6 at the beginning of the first quarter, Oklahoma City Thunder finished the period robustly with a 24-8 surge, holding a 33-28 advantage as they entered the second.

Thunder Adapt Without Holmgren

With Holmgren unavailable because of a pelvic fracture that will sideline him for eight weeks, the Oklahoma City Thunder utilized a smaller lineup for the second game in a row. They were able to reduce turnovers, surrendering only seven during the entire evening. Their precise ball control stood in stark contrast to New Orleans, which had 24 turnovers that hindered their attempts.

Pelicans Battle Without Key Players

The Pelicans were without multiple starters, such as Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, and Jose Alvarado, because of injuries. Brandon Ingram topped the Pelicans with 18 points in the game with Thunder. Even, Trey Murphy contributed 14, and Yves Missi recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Even though New Orleans dominated the rebounding game 58-31, turnovers ultimately proved detrimental.

Oklahoma City Thunder aims to continue their winning streak as they welcome the Phoenix Suns on Friday.
