In a dramatic and controversial ending, Northwestern head coach Chris Collins was ejected in the final moments of their overtime loss to No. 2 Purdue with a score of 105-96. The wild sequence occurred after Northwestern’s last shot attempt in the closing seconds, leading to Collins vehemently arguing with official Courtney Green.
Green promptly ejected Chris Collins from the game, despite the buzzer sounding and the clock hitting zero. A visibly upset Collins had to be restrained and escorted off the court by Wildcats guard Brooks Barnhizer. Before leaving, Collins took a moment to congratulate Purdue coach Matt Painter, standout player Zach Edey, and others. He concluded with a salute to the Boilermakers’ fans before heading to the tunnel.

Purdue dominated Northwestern in the extra period, outscoring them by nine points. The free throw situation in overtime mirrored the entire game, with Purdue attempting 13 free throws compared to Northwestern’s three in the final five minutes. Edey delivered a stellar performance, scoring a game-high 30 points, including 10 in overtime, and securing 15 rebounds.
The free throw controversy extended throughout the game, with Purdue taking 46 free throws while Northwestern attempted only eight as a team. The victory marked Purdue’s sixth consecutive win, setting the stage for a crucial matchup against No. 6 Wisconsin on Sunday. Importantly, the Boilermakers avenged their earlier loss to Northwestern in December, leaving Northwestern with a 15-6 season record.
