The New York Knicks maintain their big-picture goal of securing a superstar, yet, with none available at the trade deadline, the focus shifts to enhancing shot creation and depth. According to Marc Stein’s recent substack newsletter, the Knicks have expressed “a level of interest” in players such as Utah’s Jordan Clarkson, Charlotte’s Terry Rozier, Portland’s Malcolm Brogdon, and Detroit’s Alec Burks.
Jordan Clarkson and Rozier, known for their scoring abilities, could significantly bolster the Knicks’ second unit during non-Jalen Brunson minutes. Brogdon, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, brings both scoring and playmaking skills, while Burks is a favourite of Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau.
Internal interest in Bruce Brown has also been reported, though he may not align perfectly with the Knicks’ current needs. Brown, acquired by the Raptors in the Pascal Siakam trade, possesses defensive prowess and clutch shooting abilities but may not provide the desired bench-scoring punch.
As the Knicks explore trade options, Evan Fournier and his expiring $18.9 million contract serve as salary ballast. Quentin Grimes, a former first-round pick, has emerged as a trade asset actively considered by the Knicks. Rival executives reveal that Grimes, once deemed untouchable, is drawing considerable interest around the league.
With ambitions to replicate last year’s playoff success, the Knicks aim to secure additional depth, potentially making them active participants in trade discussions leading up to the deadline. The inclusion of Grimes in potential deals adds an enticing element to their trade offers.
