Although it is unclear if Dwight Howard will make a return to the NBA, the ex-Philadelphia 76ers center is staying active. The eight-time All-Star has discovered a new platform- this time, it’s not a basketball court but the dance floor. Howard is set to participate in the next season of “Dancing With the Stars,” teaming up with professional dancer Daniella Karagach. This unexpected decision places Howard in the company of other well-known personalities like Phaedra Parks and Danny Amendola, as they tackle the task of ballroom dancing.

Still Active in Basketball

At 38 years old, Howard has not retired from playing basketball in an official capacity. Even though Howard’s most recent time in the NBA was with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022, he has stayed fit by playing basketball in Taiwan. Following his agreement with the Taoyuan Leopards in the T1 League, he linked up with the Taiwan Mustangs for the Asian Tournament in May. As he stays active abroad, the chance of him making a comeback to the NBA remains.

Howard’s NBA Journey

Howard’s NBA journey kicked off in 2004 when he emerged as the primary player for the Orlando Magic. After eight seasons, he transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers and then had periods with the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, and Washington Wizards. During his second stint with the Lakers in 2020, Howard secured his first and only NBA Championship. He signed with the 76ers as Joel Embiid’s understudy the next year, scoring an average of seven points and eight rebounds in 69 games.

In his last season in the NBA, he returned to the Lakers for a third time and maintained an average of six points and six rebounds in 60 games. His most recent time in the NBA playoffs was during his postseason with the 76ers.

What’s Next?

Howard is keeping busy, whether he’s playing basketball in Taiwan or dancing on the TV show “Dancing With the Stars.” Although a comeback to the NBA is still a possibility, Howard appears committed to continue challenging himself with new opportunities.
