The Brooklyn Nets have made an intriguing move to bolster their backcourt by signing former lottery pick Killian Hayes to a one-year deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Hayes, now 22 years old, was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, one spot ahead of where the New York Knicks chose Obi Toppin at No. 8. Regarded as one of the premier pure point guards in his draft class—which also featured LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton, and Tyrese Maxey—Hayes has faced challenges adjusting to the NBA.

Over his four seasons in the league, Killian Hayes, who hails from Lakeland, Florida but was raised in France, has averaged 8.1 points and 5.2 assists per game. However, his shooting statistics have been less than stellar, with a 27.7 percent accuracy from three-point range and 38.2 percent from the field overall.

With the Nets already featuring several point guard options, including veteran Dennis Schroder and the injury-prone Ben Simmons, Hayes will likely need to prove himself to secure a spot on the final roster. This signing presents an opportunity for Hayes to revitalize his career and contribute to the Nets’ backcourt depth.
