Nerlens Noel is an American professional basketball player, currently playing for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He had a huge tragedy in his first season of collegiate basketball, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) at the University of Kentucky, and ending his collegiate basketball career.

The New Orleans Pelicans selected Noel with the sixth overall choice in the 2013 NBA draught. The Philadelphia 76ers acquired his rights afterward. He was a top high school basketball player in the class of 2012, playing center and power forward.

Professional career

Philadelphia 76ers (2013–2017)

After one season at the University of Kentucky, Noel was expected to be one of the tops picks in the 2013 NBA draught, with many thinking him the favorite to be selected first overall. During the draught, he was invited to sit in the “green room,” a room with the expected top 10 to 15 collegiate basketball players, and the New Orleans Pelicans selected him with the sixth overall choice. The league was concerned about his ruptured left ACL, which may have pushed him down the selection board. Later that night, Noel’s draught rights and a 2014 first-round pick were traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for guard Jrue Holiday and a 2014 second-round choice.
