Paris Olympics 2024: Anthony Edwards Boasts About Swimming Skills, Playfully Roasts Teammates

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards will play a crucial role for Team USA men’s basketball as they vie for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, Edwards believes he could excel in another Olympic sport: swimming.

In an interview with Today, Edwards was asked which Olympic sport he would thrive in if he weren’t playing basketball. Confidently, the Timberwolves guard claimed he would dominate freestyle swimming due to his speed in the pool.

When asked if he would be the fastest swimmer on the United States men’s basketball team, Edwards didn’t hesitate to affirm his prowess while humorously mocking his teammates.

“For sure. They ain’t no swimmers,” Edwards asserted. “You got Joel Embiid, you got [Anthony Davis], and Bam [Adebayo]. They ain’t swimming fast. LeBron, he ain’t swimming fast. KD, Kawhi [Leonard], [Jayson] Tatum, they’re not swimming fast at all. So my only challenger is [Devin Booker], but he might not know how to swim. Jrue [Holiday] might drown. And [Tyrese] Haliburton, oh my God. If Haliburton beat me, then I just need to never touch the water again.”

Edwards’ playful confidence is a welcome addition to Team USA as they prepare for the Paris Olympics 2024 games. Over the past week, the Americans have shown their dominance with wins against Canada and Australia in tune-up matches before heading to France.

Team USA will undoubtedly benefit from Edwards’ self-assurance and competitive spirit as they aim for gold in Paris.

Hey, I’m Eric. I’ve been writing about basketball for years, and I still get excited every time I sit down to cover a game or dive into a player’s story. I’m all about the details that make the sport what it is—and I try to bring that same energy to everything I write.
