On Thursday, the Cleveland Cavaliers ended the prolonged Donovan Mitchell selection.
A blockbuster trade involving Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, and Ochai Agbaji, three first-round picks, and two pick swaps landed the Cavaliers the star of the Utah Jazz for a hefty sum.
Given how well-liked Mitchell is among NBA players, how surprising the trade was, and how the New York Knicks, who were considered the favorite to land Mitchell, left empty-handed, twitter was filled with remarks about the deal.
Magic Johnson is considered the best point guard without any doubt. The legendary Los Angeles Lakers player was a first-ballot Hall of Famer who also won three MVP awards and five NBA titles. He has served as the Lakers’ head coach and president of basketball operations in addition to his time as a player.

Magic Johnson tweeted his opinion regarding the Donovan Mitchell trade:
Great trade for the Cleveland Cavaliers acquiring Donovan Mitchell to match with the young talent they already have. The Cavs will be a force to be reckoned with in the East!

He further applauded Utah Jazz’s CEO Danny Ainge:
Utah’s CEO of Basketball Danny Ainge is doing a fantastic job rearranging Utah roster and acquiring 13 unprotected or lightly protected picks. I don’t think he’s done yet!

Overall, Johnson’s assessment seems accurate. The Cavaliers were 44-38 last season, and they are now bringing in one of the top 25 NBA players. Last year, Donovan averaged 25.9 points per game and was selected to his third straight All-Star Game. He has never missed the NBA Playoffs in his five seasons in the league. The Jazz have now traded Rudy Gobert and Mitchell, and they have also acquired a sizable amount of goods to aid in their rebuilding.
