As the 2024 NBA Finals approach, the reunion of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis on different teams is receiving considerable attention. The two ex-teammates, who played together in Dallas from 2019 to 2022, talked about the subject in their own press conferences on Tuesday.

Addressing Past Rumors

Chandler Parsons stirred the pot by suggesting a strained relationship between the European stars during their time together in Dallas. Doncic was quick to refute these claims. “I have talked to Chandler Parsons maybe twice in my life, so I do not know how he would know that. Me and KP have a good relationship. I do not know why people say otherwise,” the Slovenian sensation remarked.

Porzingis echoed a positive sentiment about facing his former team, saying, “I think it is going to be great. I played there for two and a half years and happy for everybody in Dallas. I have a lot of great relationships there.”

Reflecting on Their Dallas Tenure

Even with their dedication, Doncic and Porzingis’ stint in Dallas did not result in the playoff achievement they had hoped for. Both in 2020 and 2021, they led the Mavericks to the playoffs but were knocked out in the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers.

“Obviously, it did not work out,” Porzingis said, downplaying further questions about his past with Doncic. “I do not want to go there, not even thinking about that right now. I am focused on the job ahead.”

Injury Updates

Both players are dealing with injuries while getting ready for the Finals. Porzingis, who has been out of action with a right soleus strain since the start of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, is hopeful for his comeback. Every day, I am improving in my well-being. I won’t deceive you, it has been quite a lengthy process. He expressed that it has been difficult to stay on the sidelines. I was attempting to remain fully involved with the team by staying close to them, completing my work, and being present with the team.

Doncic has been dealing with a right knee sprain and left ankle soreness throughout the playoffs. “About the same. It did not get any better. I mean, a little rest to get better. It has been more days. Hopefully, I will check in Game 1 if it is better or not. But it has been great to have some rest,” he updated his status.

Looking Ahead to Game 1

Both teams have taken a break after the Conference Finals ended, giving players a chance to recuperate and relax. The first game of the NBA championship series will be held at TD Arena on Thursday in a best-of-seven format. When Doncic and Porzingis go head-to-head, their history as former teammates will bring an interesting element to the upcoming series.

The meeting between Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, this time as opponents, will be a compelling narrative in the upcoming NBA Finals, highlighting their development and determination while guiding their teams towards the title.
