The Los Angeles Lakers decided to rest Bronny James, Dalton Knecht, and Maxwell Lewis for their final Las Vegas Summer League game against the Chicago Bulls due to medical considerations, as reported by Mike Trudell. Despite not having specific injuries, the players were rested since the Lakers had participated in more summer league games than most teams, including the California Classic.
Bronny James, the son of NBA superstar LeBron James, had a challenging start to his summer league campaign, missing his first 15 three-point attempts and struggling offensively. However, he showed significant improvement in his last two games, scoring a combined 25 points and displaying the defensive potential that makes him an intriguing prospect.
“He had two pretty good games last two,” noted Lakers summer league coach Dane Johnson. “I think it’s just going to help him going into the summer so we can work on different things with him. Just that confidence and knowing he can play at this level. It’s still going to take a lot of time and a lot of reps.”
Although Bronny is under a guaranteed NBA contract and holds a roster spot with the Lakers, he is expected to spend much of his rookie season in the G League. Despite his strong finish in the summer league, his overall performance was inconsistent. His shooting needs improvement, and his ball-handling skills require further development to create his own scoring opportunities.
As such, NBA fans may not see much of Bronny in regular season games for now. While he may have occasional appearances off the bench, he remains a work in progress. The summer league was a positive step forward, but Bronny will need to continue working diligently to reach NBA-level proficiency.
