Kyle Hines has announced his retirement at 38, ending a 16-year career highlighted by four EuroLeague championships and three Best Defender awards.

EuroLeague legend Kyle Hines announced his retirement at the age of 38. Throughout his impressive 16-year career, Hines began with Veroli Basket in Italy in 2008 and made his mark in the EuroLeague over 14 seasons. Hines played for several top teams, including Brose Bamberg (2010-11), Olympiacos Piraeus (2011-13), CSKA Moscow (2013-20), and EA7 Emporio Armani Milan (2020-24).

He won four EuroLeague championships (2012, 2013, 2016, 2019) and earned the title of EuroLeague Best Defender three times (2016, 2018, 2022). The EuroLeague 2010–20 All-Decade Team recognized Hines as a member

Kyle Hines played in 425 EuroLeague games, starting 160 of them. Over this span, he averaged 7.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 10.1 PIR.

He ranks fifth in all-time EuroLeague minutes (8,789:32), 11th in points (3,339), second in two-pointers made (1,332), first in offensive rebounds (824), eighth in defensive boards (1,031), second overall in rebounding (1,855), 11th in steals (287), third in blocks (320) and fifth in accumulated PIR (4,299).

In addition to the Europa League championship, he has achieved success with his team in various national teams and competitions:

– Winning the LBA championship three times (2022, 2023, 2024)

– Won the Italian Cup twice (2021, 2022)

– Dominated the VTB United League, winning six championships (2014-2019)

– Greek League Championship 2012 –

– Won the Bundesliga championship in 2011 –

– lifted the German Cup in 2011

During his last season, Hines averaged 3.5 points and 2.3 rebounds over 12 minutes in the EuroLeague.

Hines never played in the NBA. After going undrafted in 2008, he joined the Charlotte Bobcats for the NBA Summer Alliance in Las Vegas. He was later offered a spot within the NBA D-League but chose to decline it.

In 2009, he returned to the Summer League and played for the Orlando Enchantment. The following year, in 2010, Hines played for the New Orleans Pelicans in the Summer League. However, he failed to secure an NBA contract.
