Over the years, Durant and Drake have developed a close friendship. The American rapper has established strong relationships with numerous NBA superstars and is often seen courtside at games, sometimes receiving game-worn jerseys.
One memorable moment was when Drake was courtside during the 2019 NBA Finals, witnessing Durant tear his Achilles, and he attempted to console the then-Golden State Warriors superstar.
But why is Kevin Durant particularly popular in Texas? It’s because he used to play for the state. He wore the Longhorns jersey during the 2006–07 college season, putting up impressive averages of 25.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 35 games.
Although it was his only season in Texas, Durant and his team made it to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 4 seed. They won the first-round game against New Mexico State but suffered an upset loss to USC in the next round. After that, Durant decided to forgo the final three years of his college eligibility and enter the NBA draft.
Before becoming the No. 2 overall pick in the 2007 draft, KD earned several prestigious awards, including the National Player of the Year Award, the John R. Wooden Award, and the Naismith College Player of the Year Award. Notably, he was the first freshman to ever win all three of these awards.
