Kevin Durant time with the Golden State Warriors has always been a hot topic, and even years later, the 14-time NBA All-Star is quick to defend his legacy. On Monday, Durant found himself responding to yet another criticism, this time from former NFL receiver and current FS1 analyst Keyshawn Johnson.
In a viral video on X (formerly known as Twitter), Johnson questioned Durant’s impact on the Warriors, suggesting that any star player could have thrived in that environment. “If I put Paul Pierce on the Golden State Warriors with Klay Thompson, Draymond [Green], and Steph Curry, you don’t think he could do the same s–t [as Durant]?” Johnson stated.
Durant didn’t waste any time clapping back. He responded with a pointed tweet: “If the Jets would’ve taken Jonathan Ogden, Marvin Harrison, Ray Lewis, or Eddie George number 1, they would’ve been better off… I hate comparisons.” Durant was referencing the New York Jets’ decision to draft Johnson with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft, overlooking several future Hall of Famers like Ogden, Harrison, and Lewis.

While Johnson’s comments sparked debate, Durant’s accomplishments with the Warriors speak for themselves. After joining the team, Durant helped lead Golden State to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances, winning two championships and earning two NBA Finals MVP awards in the process. Over his three seasons with the Warriors, Durant averaged 25.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.
Critics may continue to debate Durant’s move to Golden State, but his impact on the team’s success during that period is undeniable. Alongside the Warriors’ Big Three of Curry, Thompson, and Green, Kevin Durant elevated the team to an even higher level, solidifying his place in NBA history.
