Although both teams displayed their skills, all eyes were on Clippers’ standout Kawhi Leonard, who opted out of joining any training sessions. The LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors played against each other in a preseason match in Hawaii, concluding a week-long training camp in Oahu.

Kawhi’s Health Update

During the camp, Leonard concentrated exclusively on getting his knee stronger. During the halftime of Saturday’s game, he discussed his health as he prepared for the upcoming NBA season. Leonard mentioned that he is feeling well. “I have been simply taking it slow, building my strength, and preparing myself.” His careful strategy demonstrates his dedication to being thoroughly ready for the upcoming obstacles.

Navigating Back-to-Backs

Regarding the possibility of playing in consecutive games, Leonard stressed the importance of taking a day-to-day approach: “We’re simply proceeding cautiously to ensure my return to the court.” He admitted that talks about his playing time will be postponed, demonstrating his emphasis on taking things step by step instead of diving into a busy schedule.

Adjusting His Role

Leonard also talked about the potential necessity for the Clippers to adjust his role as he gets older. “Men my age aren’t really doing the things I’m doing,” he observed as he aged. His goal is to win a championship instead of just completing all 82 games. In the previous season, he predominantly saw action as a power forward and plans to maintain that position going forward. “I likely logged the highest number of miles per game last year… so we need to determine if that’s helpful for me or not,” he said.

Looking Ahead

As the Clippers get ready for their first game against the Phoenix Suns, it is still uncertain if Leonard will be able to play. Nevertheless, his dedication and advancement towards the team’s triumph are evident as he concentrates on making a strong comeback on the court.
