Towns began the game strong by scoring 24 points in the first half and then secured the victory by adding 14 more in the fourth quarter. The Knicks coach commended the influence of his star player, stating, “Karl had a strong beginning, and our defense improved as a result.”
Heat’s Early Momentum Fizzles
The Heat started the game well, making half of their shots in the first half. Tyler Herro’s impressive 20 points boosted Miami to a 58-52 halftime lead. However, the Heat’s pace slowed down in the third quarter, only making 31.8% of their shots. The Knicks took advantage by making 57.1% of their shots and hitting eight three-pointers to gain control. The Knicks took the lead 79-77 after a three-pointer by Jalen Brunson with 3:34 remaining in the third quarter, and maintained their advantage from that point on.
Brunson and Hart Step Up
Jalen Brunson contributed 22 points and provided nine assists in addition to Towns. Josh Hart provided a well-rounded performance with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists, helping the Knicks withstand late pressure from Miami.
Herro Shines for Miami
Tyler Herro was the top scorer for Miami, scoring 34 points and making eight three-pointers. Teammates Terry Rozier and Jimmy Butler scored 16 and 15 points each, but were unable to maintain Miami’s early lead.
A Gritty New York Win
