During Jaylen Brown’s appearance in the Slam Dunk Contest, former NFL champion and current ESPN analyst Shannon Sharpe took a jab at Brown and content creator Kai Cenat. Sharpe expressed his discontent when Brown, the Boston Celtics star, received a score of 47.6 out of 50 for jumping over Cenat, who was seated in a chair.
In a conversation with Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson on the ‘Nightcap’ podcast, Cenat delivered a comedic rant that left both Sharpe and Johnson amused. After discussing Brown’s performance with Sharpe, Cenat launched into a tirade following Brown’s request for his assistance.
Cenat had previously mentioned that he and Brown had been close friends for some time, which is why he readily agreed when Brown asked him to be part of one of his dunks.
However, the dunk attempt caused quite a stir but for all the wrong reasons. Despite Brown successfully jumping over Cenat on the second attempt after a failed first try, he was met with boos from the audience.
While Sharpe’s criticism was aimed at Jaylen Brown, it was Cenat who found himself in the middle of it. Sharpe lambasted Brown’s performance on Monday’s edition of ESPN’s ‘First Take’.
Jaylen Brown’s received scores of 48, 47, and 47, averaging 47.6, which was sufficient to advance him to the finals against reigning Dunk champion Mac McClung, despite fans’ dissatisfaction, particularly after executing a 360-degree between-the-legs dunk in the second round.
Ultimately, McClung defended his title, winning the Dunk Contest for a second consecutive year. As for Brown, he will likely aim to brush off the criticism and refocus on the NBA championship
