Julius Randle and Knicks
Julius Randle, the All-Star forward for the New York Knicks, had a rough NBA season in 2021-2022. He astonished the basketball world a year ago when he led his team to the playoffs. For his outstanding season, Randle won the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award and even earned MVP votes. In his second professional season, he was equally impressive as he lifted an average Knicks team to a fourth-place finish in the Eastern Conference.
Unfortunately for the Knicks, they got a different Randle this season. He was unable to repeat his success from the previous year, and the New York media and supporters retaliated heavily. A sizable portion of the New York public does not want Randle to wear a Knicks uniform next season. However, that would be a huge mistake if they decide to let him go.
Knicks fans should support and expect a back-to-best season from Randle
The New York Knicks have the ability to be a dominant force in the Eastern Conference. With RJ Barrett’s improvements and a few summer signings, this club has a chance to make a postseason run. In today’s NBA, Randle isn’t a reliable first option for a competitive club. He, like the rest of the team, requires additional assistance. Finally, he appears to be buying into the team-first ethos, as he was recently observed training with his younger teammates.
Randle was the focal point of New York’s attack. The majority of the plays were written for him, and he was even tasked with facilitating the offense on some occasions.
Randle had two real point guards in Elfrid Payton and Jrue Holiday during his two greatest seasons. I’m not advocating for Payton’s return, but Randle would benefit from the addition of a reliable point guard who can create offense. This group has a lot of potentials. Randle, especially as a second or third option, could be a focal point in this offense. Since the offseason, there have been whispers regarding Jalen Brunson, who many believe could be a huge asset to this club.
