Joe Mazzulla, the head coach of the Boston Celtics, is ready to take on the task of protecting the team’s NBA championship this autumn. As the Celtics prepare for the 2024-25 season, Mazzulla anticipates his team will be a focal point for the rest of the league.
People may say the target is on our back, but I prefer it to be right on our forehead, between our eyes. Mazzulla expressed his desire to see the red dot during the Locked On Celtics podcast.
Ready for the Next Chapter
The Celtics will start their preseason by playing against the Denver Nuggets in two games during the 2024 NBA Abu Dhabi Games on Oct. 4 and Oct. 6. Their North American preseason starts on Oct. 12, followed by the regular-season opener at home against the New York Knicks on Oct. 22. Boston aims to begin their campaign strongly in their pursuit of becoming NBA champions for the second consecutive year, a milestone most recently accomplished by the Golden State Warriors in 2018.
Confidence in the Roster
The Celtics are starting the upcoming season feeling confident because they have kept most of their championship team intact. Jayson Tatum of the Celtics expressed confidence in the team’s prospects, stating, “Our lineup remains unchanged.” This uninterrupted sequence gives the Celtics a strong base to protect their championship.
Mazzulla’s Journey and Focus
Mazzulla’s progression from temporary coach to permanent head coach in Boston has been remarkable. Following the Celtics’ successful 42-17 start in his inaugural season, he secured a permanent position in February 2023. Even though his team didn’t win in the Eastern Conference Finals that year, Mazzulla led them to a championship in the next season.
After winning the 2024 NBA Finals, Mazzulla has stayed intensely focused on defending their title. Determination of Joe Mazzulla for victory remains strong as the Celtics gear up to protect their championship.
