Following a remarkable 18-year basketball career in the NBA and coaching experiences at different levels, Stackhouse is now part of the coaching team for the Golden State Warriors. Selected as the third overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1995, Stackhouse received two All-Star nods and maintained an average of 16.9 points per game throughout his career. He started coaching with his son’s AAU team and went on to work with the Toronto Raptors and Vanderbilt University.

Defensive Philosophy to Lead the Warriors

Famous for his solid defensive approach, Stackhouse intends to prioritize this with the Warriors. “It was primarily focused on acquiring assistance for the defensive aspect of the game,” Stackhouse mentioned when discussing his responsibilities. His strategy emphasizes communication and transition defense, with the goal of forcing opponents to work harder against the Warriors’ half-court defense.

Excitement Around the Young Core

Stackhouse is thrilled about the promising young players on the Warriors, such as standout rookies Trayce Jackson-Davis and Brandin Podziemski. He commended Jackson-Davis for his promise and Podziemski for his resilience, particularly on the defensive end. Stackhouse’s knowledge could be crucial in the growth of this youthful group, comprising of athletes such as Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.

New Additions to the Roster

Stackhouse shared thoughts about the Warriors’ offseason decisions. Feeling positive that Buddy Hield can help ease the impact of Klay Thompson’s absence. He emphasized De’Anthony Melton as the top guard defender for the team. Which is crucial in boosting the Warriors’ defense that placed 15th in the league last year.

Under Stackhouse’s guidance, the Warriors are optimistic about having a more solid defensive team and seeing further development from their young athletes.
