In a pivotal Game 3 showdown at the Target Center, the Denver Nuggets, propelled by the standout performance of Jamal Murray, surged to a resounding victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, narrowing the series gap to 2-1. The final scoreboard read 117-90 in favour of the Nuggets, injecting fresh energy into their playoff campaign.
While the Timberwolves faithful may have harboured hopes for Jamal Murray’s suspension following his on-court outburst in Game 2, Timberwolves coach Chris Finch expressed little surprise at the league’s decision not to suspend him.
“I wasn’t disappointed in the league’s decision,” Finch remarked. “Not because I necessarily agreed. It was simply that I never, ever, ever expected them to suspend him. I thought they would throw a heavy fine.”
Murray, undeterred by the hostile reception from the Minnesota crowd, channelled the negative energy into a stellar first-half performance, amassing 18 points and setting the tone for the Nuggets’ dominance.
“That definitely fueled me during the game,” Murray acknowledged. “And it just keeps me in that mode. So it’s fun. I embrace that challenge. I embrace that moment. I probably deserved the boos, so I’m not shying away from it.”
The relentless boos and jeers directed at Murray were a testament to the fans’ frustration following his Game 2 antics, where he vented his frustrations with a heat pack and towel fling onto the court. However, Murray appeared unperturbed by the hostile environment, embracing the role of the antagonist and thriving under the pressure.
Coach Michael Malone‘s aggressive offensive strategy paid dividends as the Nuggets surged ahead in the second quarter, establishing a commanding 45-25 lead by halftime. The team’s renewed vigour and determination were evident as they capitalized on open shooting lanes and executed with precision, a stark contrast to their struggles in the previous encounters against Minnesota’s stifling defence.
Murray’s improved health and agility were on full display throughout the game, exemplified by his dazzling moves and confident shot-making, which left defenders in his wake. With Murray back at his best, the Nuggets head into Game 4 with renewed confidence, poised to level the series and seize momentum in their quest for playoff success.
