Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets are getting ready for the NBA Cup, with the reward now at $514,970 for every victorious player. Murray, speaking openly, emphasized the significant financial reward as a major motivator: “Definitely, the prize is substantial—approximately $500K. Is that the motivation, correct?

Showcasing Star Power in Vegas

In a recent NBA Cup commercial set in Las Vegas, Murray appeared alongside popular players such as Anthony Davis and Steph Curry. The advertisement features a “Ocean’s 11” heist concept and highlights the thrilling Las Vegas setting for the tournament’s semifinals and finals in December.

Nuggets Begin Their NBA Cup Journey

The Nuggets (7-3) will kick off their group-stage games against the New Orleans Pelicans this Friday, then play a road game in Memphis next Tuesday. Despite injuries to players like Zion Williamson and Ja Morant, they aim to do better than last year’s early exit by performing strongly in the currently referred to as the “Group of Death.”

A New Look for the Court

In order to distinguish between games in tournaments, the NBA added colorful courts for every team. Murray is happy to see the contrast between the bright yellow design of Nuggets and the more subdued tones in New Orleans and Memphis. “He remarked that certain courts are certainly more attractive than others.”

Malone’s Measured Take

Even though coach Michael Malone is in favor of the league’s innovation, he views the NBA Cup as a way to enhance team cohesion rather than a main priority. Malone emphasized the Nuggets’ dedication to pursuing both the title and championship, stating their goal is to compete for both.

With greater stakes on the line, the Nuggets aim to win the NBA Cup and cement their position in the tournament’s history.
