The New York Knicks were defeated 121-106 by the Dallas Mavericks, despite the impressive showing of Jalen Brunson on Wednesday.
A Tough Start
The Knicks struggled at the beginning, only making 26.2% of their shots from the field and a poor 2-of-16 from beyond the arc in the first half. At the halfway point, they were behind 60-38, with a majority of the team having difficulty on the offensive end. Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges scored a total of 26 points in the first half, while the rest of the New York Knicks only managed to score 12 points on 2-of-22 shooting.
Brunson and Towns Deliver
Brunson stood out with 37 points while shooting 14-of-21 and also delivering seven assists. Karl-Anthony Towns contributed a powerful double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Mikal Bridges scored 20 points. Nevertheless, their attempts were insufficient to defeat a well-rounded Mavericks offense.
Defense Lets Knicks Down
The Mavericks didn’t have Luka Dončić, Klay Thompson, and Daniel Gafford in the game, but they didn’t skip a beat. Naji Marshall led the way with 24 points as six Dallas players each scored at least ten points. Kyrie Irving scored 23 points, while P.J. Washington nearly achieved a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Dallas managed to shoot an impressive 56.5% from the field and made 17 out of 33 shots from beyond the arc.
Inconsistency Plagues Knicks
This defeat symbolized the Knicks’ season of ups and downs. Only two nights ago, they achieved their highest score of the season with 145 points in a dominant victory against Denver, but now they have delivered a disappointing performance. With a record of 10-8, the Knicks are still holding onto fourth place in the Eastern Conference, but concerns have been raised regarding their defensive performance and ability to maintain consistency.
Fans expressed their frustrations on the internet, with one person stating: “I feel like God created the Knicks solely to challenge me.” The Knicks hope to make a comeback against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.
