When it is time for the new NBA season to start, people await in the hope of seeing the new outstanding players. According to CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone, the Houston Rockets are already eyeing the future with Hunter Sallis from Wake Forest as the No. 22 choice for the year 2025 via the Phoenix Suns.
Sallis Shines After Transfer to Wake Forest
Hunter Sallis is one of the most decisive as he transferred from Gonzaga to Wake Forest last season and contributed greatly in his last season. Playing in Gonzaga he was scoring 4.4 points per game, and this average number has been attained over two seasons only. Still, he had transferred to Wake Forest which brought him the season of his life and increased his average to 18 points per game. This move-up in the production rating was also coupled with efficiency and marked that he was capable of being a high-efficiency player.
“Sallis has First Team All-American potential after exploding onto the scene with Wake last year as an All-ACC performer and generating increased NBA Draft consideration before opting to return to school Boone pointed out”. His ability to extend his range by increasing his jumper and 3-point shot along with an increased ability to create for others are positives.
A Strategic Fit for Houston
Therefore, Sallis measures 6-foot-5 and weighs 175 pounds, and this strong-bodied man comes armed with a skill set that somewhat fits the Rockets’ needs for shooting and playmaking. His excellent performance in three-point shots achieved a 40% success and averages of 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
The Rockets, who have problems in these fields, could gain a lot from Sallis’ possibilities. He could be used as a player in the future in case some players such as Fred VanVleet decides to leave the team and seek other opportunities.
Planning for the Future
Although the Rockets had initially traded their first-round pick as part of the deal that gave Houston OKC’s Samuel Dalembert and cash to send Kevin Martin to Oklahoma City, getting the Suns’ pick is insurance for them. Forwarding this opportunity, the Rockets can follow the same line of creating and maintaining a young and vibrant team embracing the future.
For the Houston Rockets, it is still a way off since the 2025 NBA Draft will be conducted sometime in June of 2025, but looking at what Hunter Sallis brings to the table gives an inkling of the team’s bright future.
