After making a strong impression with the Memphis Grizzlies last season, Scotty Pippen Jr. has reportedly agreed to a multi-year guaranteed contract with the team. The deal was confirmed by his Klutch Sports representatives, Rich Paul and Shy Saee, to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday. While specific terms of the contract were not disclosed, the move solidifies Pippen’s role with the Grizzlies moving forward.
Pippen, 23, is the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen and has forged his own path in the league after going undrafted in 2022 despite a standout collegiate career at Vanderbilt. He initially signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-way deal for the 2022-23 season but saw limited playing time, appearing in just six games.
The Lakers waived Pippen before the 2023-24 season, but Memphis saw potential in the young guard, signing him to a two-way contract in January. Scotty Pippen Jr. made the most of the opportunity, playing 21 games and starting 16, where he averaged 12.9 points, 4.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. His shooting efficiency was particularly impressive, hitting 49.3% from the field and an outstanding 41.7% from beyond the arc on 3.4 attempts per game.
Pippen’s performance earned him a spot on the Grizzlies’ regular roster. As a versatile two-way guard, he is expected to provide key backup minutes behind starters Ja Morant and Marcus Smart. Additionally, with the retirement of veteran guard Derrick Rose, Pippen may see an increased role in Memphis’ rotation this upcoming season.
