Gordon Daniel Hayward is an American professional basketball player, currently playing for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has previously played for the Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics. He grew from a freshman height of 5’11” (1.80 m) to a senior height of 6’7″ (2.01 m). Hayward was more successful in tennis until his growth spurt, when he was a two-time all-state singles player. Gordon Scott Hayward and Jody Hayward, Hayward’s parents, arranged parties for their son and his high school basketball buddies.
In collegiate basketball, Hayward led the Butler Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament championship game in 2010. After that, the Utah Jazz selected him with the ninth overall choice in the 2010 NBA draught. Hayward was a member of the 2017 NBA All-Star Game after seven seasons with the Jazz. Hayward signed as a free agent with the Boston Celtics in the 2017 off-season, but was ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle in the team’s opener. Hayward remained with the Celtics for two more seasons before being dealt to the Charlotte Hornets in a sign-and-trade deal in November 2020.
