A trade with Brandon Ingram is unlikely to occur in the near future. During the Lowe Post podcast, Zach Lowe from ESPN talked about the contract extension and trade possibilities of the New Orleans Pelicans’ forward.
Contract Extension Doubts
Lowe stated that the Pelicans may not be willing to provide Ingram with the substantial contract extension he desires. Lowe mentioned that there hasn’t been much excitement from the Pelicans regarding giving him such a large extension. He also stated that a trade with Ingram is not happening soon.
A Challenging Season
Ingram had a decline in performance in the 2023-24 season, with an average of 20.8 points, 5.7 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game. Nevertheless, the Pelicans managed to reach the playoffs’ first round. Ingram caught the attention of multiple teams during the summer, such as the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs. Nonetheless, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, both squads turned their attention to different trade options, decreasing the demand for Ingram.
Upcoming Free Agency
Ingram will be eligible for free agency once this season ends. If he fails to obtain a favorable extension, he might depart from the Pelicans. The team must make a difficult choice about giving Ingram a maximum contract, especially with the presence of Zion Williamson and recently acquired Dejounte Murray.
Proving His Worth
Ingram must have a successful season to show he is worthy of a profitable contract, whether it’s from the Pelicans or a different team. His playoff showing, with an average of 14.3 points on 34.5 percent shooting, did not support his argument.
It is still unclear what the future holds for Brandon Ingram with the Pelicans. The team and Ingram both have important choices to make as the season moves forward. If Ingram improves his performance, he could lock in the contract he wants, solidifying his position as a prominent player in the NBA.
