The future of Brandon Ingram with the New Orleans Pelicans is becoming increasingly unclear due to ongoing contract negotiations and trade speculation. As the new season approaches, Ingram, who has been a key player for the Pelicans for a long time, is uncertain about his future decisions.

Voluntary Minicamp Absence Raises Eyebrows

As per Will Guillory of The Athletic, Brandon Ingram was one of just two Pelicans players who did not attend a recent voluntary minicamp in California. The team anticipated his presence, but Ingram opted to stay away. His online presence at camp caused speculation when he shared a video on X platform of a pastor preaching about staying away from places where one’s worth is not acknowledged.

Daniel Theis, who agreed to a one-year contract in July, also did not attend the week-long training session. Nevertheless, Ingram’s nonappearance becomes more noticeable as he handles contract talks and trade talks.

Contract Standoff Looms

Ingram is due to receive $36 million in the upcoming season, which marks the end of his five-year, $158.2 million deal. According to reports, Ingram’s representatives are looking for a $210 million four-year extension at the maximum value. Nonetheless, the Pelicans have indicated they will not go to great lengths to keep him on the team. Other teams are interested in trading for Ingram but they are reluctant to meet his contract requirements.

A Crucial Season Ahead

The Pelicans need to make this season count. Despite making playoffs twice in the last three years, they have faced difficulties progressing past the initial round. After enjoying his most injury-free season to date, Zion Williamson’s team is optimistic about a turnaround. In his sixth season with the Pelicans, Ingram continues to be a crucial player as the team navigates important choices.
