Dubai Basketball has completed its roster by signing ex-NBA player Davis Bertans, getting ready for their first appearance in Europe’s ABA League. The UAE club is entering an exciting new chapter with the addition of the 31-year-old forward, who has valuable experience from the NBA and European leagues.
Bertans’ Journey from NBA to Dubai
Davis Bertans, originally from Latvia, joined the NBA during the 2011 draft. Initially he signed with the Indiana Pacers. But was soon traded to the San Antonio Spurs before going back to Europe. He went on to have short periods of time with the Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and finished his career with the Charlotte Hornets in the 2023/24 season.
The ex-NBA forward has now signed with Dubai Basketball, adding to their international roster. As they become the debut UAE team in a prominent European league.
A Competitive Squad with Global Talent
There are 12 players from nine different countries on Dubai’s roster, which includes Serbia, the U.S., Italy, Turkey, and the Philippines. With Slovenia’s Klemen Prepelic as captain. The team is prepared to leave a strong impression in the recently expanded 2024/25 ABA League, now including 16 teams from the former Yugoslavia region.

Coach Golemac Optimistic About the Future
Head coach Jurica Golemac thinks that Bertans joining the team brings credibility and talent. Moreover, Golemac stated that his NBA and European background will enhance our project. Golemac is confident the squad is prepared to make a strong impression. Furthermore, as they prepare for their September 22 opener against Red Star of Belgrade, the reigning champions.
