Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban has never shied away from expressing his political views, and his recent support for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the presidential race has kept him in the headlines. Following Biden’s announcement of his withdrawal from the race, Cuban doubled down on his support for Harris over Republican candidate Donald Trump. This move has sparked a mixed reaction, stirring both praise and backlash from various corners.

On July 25, Mark Cuban released a poll on X, formerly known as Twitter, to gauge public opinion on Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate. The poll asked if Harris was perceived as a “low-energy candidate,” with a significant 63.8% of respondents voting in favor. This poll drew the attention of Tiffany Justice, a prominent Republican supporter, who commented, “Guessing this didn’t turn out the way you hoped.”

Cuban’s response was pointed: “Turned out exactly as I expected. This is @X It’s not the real world. And that’s the point. I did the exact same poll on @threads at the exact same time. Completely different outcome. Also expected. The most interesting difference isn’t the survey. It’s the level of hate in the replies. Also expected.”

Cuban’s remarks ignited backlash from Trump supporters, particularly in the comments section of the poll. Many criticized his perspective and accused him of being out of touch with mainstream America. The polarized reactions highlight the deep political divide currently present in the United States.

Amid the political drama, speculation arose regarding Mark Cuban’s potential political ambitions. After selling his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks last NBA season, rumors swirled that he might run for president. Cuban was quick to shut these down, stating that he had “no plans” to run for president and jokingly adding, “My family would disown me.”

However, despite his denials, Mark Cuban has appeared as a longshot betting option to be Kamala Harris’ vice president, according to BetOnline. The betting site gives Cuban the 14th-highest odds at +8000 as of July 25, the best odds of any non-politician. Other non-politicians on the list include Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, and former Alabama football head coach Nick Saban. Clooney is just below Cuban at +10000 odds, while Saban and Winfrey each follow with +25000 odds.

Cuban’s public support for Biden and Harris has not gone unnoticed. His outspoken nature and significant social media presence have made him a polarizing figure in the political landscape. While some appreciate his candidness and business acumen, others see him as an elitist out of touch with the average voter.

Mark Cuban’s engagement in the political arena exemplifies the intersection of sports, business, and politics in today’s society. His willingness to openly support candidates and express his opinions, despite potential backlash, is commendable. However, it also underscores the deep political divisions that characterize the current American landscape.

Cuban’s stance and the resulting controversy reflect a broader trend of influential figures from non-political backgrounds entering the political discourse. This phenomenon can democratize political debate, bringing diverse perspectives to the table. However, it also risks polarizing public opinion further, as seen in Cuban’s case. His criticism of social media’s “hate” underscores the toxic nature of online political discussions, which often amplify extreme viewpoints rather than fostering constructive dialogue.

Mark Cuban’s political involvement continues to spark controversy and discussion. His recent poll on Kamala Harris and subsequent backlash from Trump supporters highlight the intense political polarization in the United States. As Cuban remains a prominent public figure, his opinions and actions will likely continue to influence political discourse, for better or worse.
