Duke newcomer Cooper Flagg, who may be the top pick in the 2025 NBA draft, has performed impressively for the USA Men’s Basketball Select Team in their Las Vegas training camp against the USA Olympic Team. The camp is preparing athletes for the upcoming Summer Games in Paris this summer.
Rising Star’s Confidence
Flagg showed great assurance during the scrimmage. Flagg said that as soon as the ball is in play, he is focused on constantly striving to win. I am simply a rival, and that is essentially what it comes down to. Being on the court with them takes some getting used to, but I’m just playing basketball and trying to improve at the same time.
Support from NBA Legends
LeBron James and Kevin Durant, two NBA superstars and Olympians, motivated Flagg. Following the competition with the 2024 team, Flagg provided his thoughts on how they performed. The first game for Team USA in group play will be against Serbia on July 28. Even though Flagg will not be part of the team now, he is expected to potentially make the 2028 Olympic team due to his current path and excitement surrounding him.
Holding His Own
Ben Golliver shared clips of Flagg’s experiences in Vegas. Demonstrating that Cooper Flagg performed well, the scrimmage concluded with Team USA narrowly defeating the Select team 74-73 after a comeback attempt. Jim Boylen, who is an assistant coach for both the select team and the Indiana Pacers, described Cooper Flagg as incredible. “He is fearless.”
