The Los Angeles Lakers are likely to sign Christian Koloko, the ex-Toronto Raptors center, as he prepares to make a comeback in the NBA. Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Koloko has been deliberating between several teams and is nearing the completion of an agreement.

Koloko’s Setback and Recovery

Christian Koloko, aged 22, was released by the Raptors in January 2024 in order to help with Pascal Siakam’s trade to the Indiana Pacers. Soon after, it became known that Koloko had been struggling with a severe blood clot problem. In October 2023, he was previously benched because of respiratory issues and was ruled out indefinitely.

While Koloko is still pending approval from the NBA’s fitness board, he can still join a team before the 2024-25 season. After being cleared, his comeback to the league could offer important depth for any team.

A Promising Rookie Season

Koloko joined the NBA after being selected as the 33rd overall pick in the 2022 draft. During his first year in the league, he played 58 games for the Raptors, with averages of 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game. Although playing few minutes. He still managed to make a significant difference. Ending with the highest net rating among Raptors who played in at least 30 games.

A Potential Fit with the Lakers

In the event that Koloko signs with the Lakers, he has the potential to provide important depth to their frontcourt. Having Anthony Davis and Jarred Vanderbilt as defensive anchors, Koloko’s shot-blocking and defense could enhance the team’s interior strength.

Fans are eagerly awaiting Koloko’s comeback to the court following his health challenges.
