Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups recently recounted an astonishing incident involving one of his players during a game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Speaking on “7pm in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony & The Kid Mero,” Billups shared that a player posted his own dunk highlight on social media while the team was down 18 points at halftime.
“We were in New Orleans, down like 18 at the half,” Billups recalled. “One of our players had a nasty dunk. As we were coming out for the third quarter, I found out this guy posted his dunk on Instagram at halftime. At halftime! Bro, we were down 18!”

Billups described his reaction to the player’s actions, revealing how he immediately confronted him. “I got wind of it and said, ‘Hey yo bro, get the f— back there and take that down off your joint, man. What the f— is wrong with you?’ He responded, ‘My bad coach, my bad coach,’ and ran to the back. I was just thinking, ‘Man, what is going on?'”
Chauncey Billups, a five-time All-Star and the 2004 NBA Finals MVP with the Detroit Pistons, has been striving to turn around the Trail Blazers since becoming head coach in 2021. However, the team has yet to make the playoffs under his leadership and finished the previous season with a disappointing 21-61 record. This incident underscores the challenges Billups faces in instilling discipline and focus in his squad.
