Before the regular season’s opening game, Barkley was asked about his choice for the 2024 NBA Finals champion. The 60-year-old analyst favored one of the league’s top contenders, selecting the Boston Celtics as his pick for the title.
Barkley highlighted a crucial addition to the Celtics, stating, “The one thing the Celtics were missing was a point guard. And they got probably the best point guard available,” referring to Jrue Holiday.

Initially, Barkley considered the Milwaukee Bucks as favorites after their acquisition of Damian Lillard. However, his prediction shifted when the Celtics made significant moves, trading for both Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.
In Barkley’s words, “If you ask me right now, I’d probably pick the Celtics to win this thing, because I like the Porzingis trade.”
While Boston and Milwaukee are frontrunners to win the 2024 NBA Finals according to preseason odds, Barkley’s choice was influenced by the Celtics’ acquisitions of Holiday and Porzingis.
