Kristaps Porziņģis is enjoying a promising start to his journey with the Boston Celtics, and his chemistry with the team’s star, Jayson Tatum, is one of the main reasons behind his enthusiasm.
In Sunday’s preseason opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, Porziņģis showcased his prowess by contributing 17 points and grabbing five rebounds. Following the game, he couldn’t help but praise the ease of playing alongside Tatum and Jaylen Brown in their offensive scheme.
“It’s just super easy, honestly. Those guys are so talented. Jayson draws so much attention that it opens things up. That’s a perfect scenario for me,” Porziņģis shared with reporters.
Porziņģis’s arrival in Boston was facilitated by an offseason trade with the Washington Wizards, and he quickly committed to a two-year, $60 million contract extension. This transaction was part of a broader roster overhaul designed to complement the core of Tatum and Brown, further solidified by the acquisition of Jrue Holiday earlier this month.
With Tatum, Brown, Porziņģis, and Holiday on the roster, the Celtics now boast four All-Star-caliber players. FanDuel Sportsbook has identified them as +380 co-favorites to claim the NBA championship.
Porziņģis, who has previously shared the court with All-Star talents like Bradley Beal and Luka Dončić, recognizes that the defensive capabilities of the Tatum-Brown-Holiday trio are notably superior. This alignment allows him to focus on protecting the rim, rather than chasing opponents on the perimeter.
Offensively, the presence of four dynamic scoring threats should create numerous opportunities for the team. Holiday’s arrival, in particular, addresses a critical need for Boston, providing them with a reliable lead ball handler, something they’ve been missing in playoff scenarios.
