Carmelo Anthony is looking to become an NBA owner, following the lead of friends such as Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. In a recent segment of “7PM in Brooklyn,” Anthony discussed his desire to possibly co-own an NBA team with Wade and James. “This is how you establish a generational legacy,” Melo stated, pointing out the vision he has in mind.
Building a Global Network
Anthony is actively pursuing this goal by engaging with investors globally, including in Japan. He is working on obtaining donations and putting together a team of owners. Ownership experience of Wade, especially with the Utah Jazz and Chicago Sky, makes Carmelo Anthony a valuable potential partner. Wade’s purchase of a minority share in the Jazz in 2021 resulted in the team’s worth almost tripling. He invested in the Chicago Sky and has been a vocal supporter, regularly cheering for standout rookie Angel Reese.
Exploring New Horizons
Anthony is looking to own a team or league that is not necessarily in the NBA. In June of 2023, he revealed a collaboration with Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL), which included plans for owning a new expansion team. At present, he acts as the NBL’s worldwide representative for the Next Stars initiative. Also potentializing his aspirations to own an NBA team.
Potential WNBA Role
While Anthony primarily concentrates on the NBA, he may also consider teaming up with Wade in the WNBA. Currently, Melo’s international projects and possible future positions demonstrate his dedication to shaping his basketball legacy beyond his time as a player.
