The Chicago Bulls have signed DJ Steward to a two-way contract following his impressive 37-point performance in the Las Vegas Summer League, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski. Steward, a Chicago native, has journeyed through various lower-level professional leagues before earning this opportunity.

DJ Steward, who went undrafted after one year at Duke, has played for the G-League’s Stockton Kings and the Maine Celtics, as well as the Vancouver Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. His standout play for the Bulls in the Summer League, where he averaged 19.3 points per game, culminated in a 37-point game against the Atlanta Hawks, catching the Bulls’ attention.

Summer league often showcases the NBA’s newest draftees, but it also serves as a proving ground for players like Steward who are fighting for a shot at the NBA. His performance earned him a chance to continue his career with his hometown team, despite the challenging path ahead for two-way players to secure long-term NBA positions.

The Bulls are in a rebuilding phase and will be looking for any source of offense, giving Steward an opportunity to contribute. Although he may not see significant playing time initially, this contract represents a crucial step for him to prove his worth against top-tier competition.
