Bronny James, who is the 18-year-old son of famous basketball player LeBron James, had a scary moment when his heart stopped during a basketball practice at the University of Southern California. This happened because he had a heart problem that he was born with, called a congenital heart defect.
This condition made his heart suddenly stop on July 24. He had to go to the hospital at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. After that, he saw doctors at the Mayo Clinic and Atlantic Health-Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey to figure out what happened.
A person who speaks for the James family shared a message on Friday to explain what caused this problem. They said that Bronny’s heart has a special issue that he was born with, but it can be treated. They believe that he will get better and be able to play basketball again soon.
After this happened, Bronny was in the hospital for three days and then he went home. He was seen out for dinner with his family the next night in Santa Monica.
Bronny, who is also called LeBron James Jr., was planning to play basketball at USC. He made this decision in May after being good at basketball in high school at Sierra Canyon School. But he didn’t go with the team on a trip to Europe this month.
This isn’t the first time something like this happened to a basketball player at USC. Last year, another player named Vincent Iwuchuwku also had a heart problem while working out. But he came back to play six months later and was able to join the team and play games
