LeBron James did not play as the Lakers faced the Minnesota Timberwolves, while his son Bronny James made his NBA preseason debut on Friday night. Even though LeBron was resting after intense training camp, Bronny got the chance to play in the NBA for the first time wearing a Lakers jersey.
Bronny’s Performance on the Court
Bronny scored two points with a layup towards the end of the game as the Lakers lost 124-107. Even though he failed to make his initial five shots, Bronny displayed his defensive skills by blocking three shots and contributing a rebound and an assist. The 6-foot-2 guard had a significant role during the second and fourth quarters, gaining a better understanding of the NBA game’s speed.
LeBron’s Guidance and Distance
LeBron stayed in a supportive yet hands-off role during the game, enabling Bronny to concentrate. Yet, he paused briefly during a break to give his son guidance through hand signals, helping Bronny maintain his focus on his development.
Lakers’ Future Plans for Bronny
Bronny James, drafted in the second round, participated in the NBA Summer League and is anticipated to join the G League’s South Bay Lakers for part of the upcoming season. Despite Bronny’s natural nerves, he is still excited to learn from the experienced veterans and has upcoming chances to demonstrate his skills.
A New Chapter for Lakers with Coach JJ Redick
JJ Redick made his coaching debut in the game, stepping in for Darvin Ham. Redick, similar to Bronny, is going through a period of adaptation, but he has faith in his team’s readiness as they progress through the preseason.
